Pulchritude Poem by Michael Walkerjohn

Pulchritude

Inspired by Alberta C. Wakefield

Self's boast, one's toast,
feminine cult of I, celebrity
instilled idea, beauty lost,
time, enemy of life's amenity
preached reign of individual,
life still, that finite unity
species borne of Adam's rib,
contempt of man's serenity.

Measured age, one's bitter taste,
minds now stress survival
blind eyes sour auras,
project envy, spear death's rivals
provoking a weakness, works nubile,
seed, precept of revival
beguile, pretense in snaring prey,
brute acts, oh so vital.

In flames, life's promise lay,
flayed hearts turned to rust
share in love, of no concern,
as flesh becomes nonplussed
fed, is sole appetite,
lasting unions, in thought mistrust
life bred, no longer one to one,
priapic seed, ire bedust.

Swell, of pompous pride,
legions fem., ruled by tartuffery
certain of world's control,
men's lot, gutted by fool's war
spite brews thoughts,
creation myths, as second under male
power, in Malthusian query,
womb not food, is human pall.

Implied perversions magnify,
loosening masses of maenad
spectre, clearly superbia,
heaven known, is beauty's pride
cause is voted suffrage,
effeminate rage, unsure to subside
Avatar, male not fem.,
lustrous insight, all souls confide.
