Purple Clover Poem by Mary Angela Douglas

Purple Clover

best are small children in their gauzy dreams

tangled with pastel Christmas lights

the summer, butterscotch sun

jump roping under the far stars

well you would,

if you could

if only in some fashion you

might stay the way you are

learning the rose has rose scent

image and word so beautiful together

incapable of the word for never

in any language

gazing at your recent angels

singing small songs

to keep yourself happy

affectionate toward the new grass the

wild purple clover on the lawn.
