Being housebound and cooped up for more than a week
a walk on path behind the house would be such a treat.
Started at pavilion end to enable to go by car; duly parked
Strolled onto the path, viewing the thickly growing wild scape.
It was warm, nothing was rushed, a gentle breeze cooled the air.
With the passing of a month or two, path edge had transformed,
transformed from sparsely growing weeds into a festoon of bloom,
gloriously rich verdant green grasses, wildflowers galore, full and tall.
Thick rows of Golden Rod almost ready to burst into full flower.
The beauty of Queen's Lace paraded alongside the whole lane,
their intricate delicately laced tea plate size heads turned upwards,
encouraging further growth to their smaller growing unfolding buds.
Walking the path along the way, mixed, amid the variegated grasses,
small bunches of mauve flowers hugged the leafy green floor
while even more Golden Rod gathered together ready to flower.
Delicate blue Cornflowers and tiny lilac petalled clumps led the way.
A single most exquisite deep pink thistle peeked its head high to be seen,
a glorious multi-budded mauvy pink bloom rose from river edge stream.
Farewell Creek runs slow, low and lazily, edges dry from lack of rain
while Wild Hollyhocks are watered by the gentle flow on nearby terrain.
Espied a Monarch Butterfly coming to rest upon a Queen's Lace bloom,
its wings spread out flat upon the flower, contrasting colors amazing to see,
Queen's Lace white against the butterfly's brown speckled brilliant orange.
Quickly took photo to capture this moment, not often caught in challenge.
That incident on Queen's Lace umbel brought my attention for closer know.
Peered closely; amazingly, insect activity taking place atop was quite a show!
Bees, beetles and ants nectar gathering, two - no, three earwigs coupling - ugh!
That quickly brought my nature study to an end - enough of bugs!
Thankfully, a magnificent Golden Rod took my attention to photo and encapture.
Path beckoned return to pavilion, ending the walk along parade of verdant rapture.
