Questions Will Remain As This Goes Stale Poem by Sarah Mkhonza

Questions Will Remain As This Goes Stale

Rating: 4.0

Let there be new questions now,
for this mystery has a corner,
that hurts to the person new,
who knows not yesterday's love.

This curious knowing of folks,
gone to the world to come stays,
for we still turn the soil sod by sod,
trying to get at the truth.

These footfalls were yours,
yet you knew them not,
now you ask who it is,
yet it was you when three.

The time has come to own,
this piece of a lost puzzle,
that disappeared with all pieces
only to return to the surface
of time with a few.

Let us put these together,
with the guide being the fire,
for it got burnt out,
at the hour of three,
only to come back now,
years after the deed.

It can be about waiting,
when you know how to do it,
yet it is about thinking,
hard as it is, when the hour
has come.

They rested in peace far away,
in the land we have forgotten,
and now they move closer to us,
to look for new ways of seeing,
and give us a glimpse of something
we lost; for this was an era to
remember.

Missing this life cannot be done now,
for that means we stood and watched,
without clapping when it was time
and singing our solos in tune,
for ours was to tune in and say our
piece.

Seated as we are on this deck,
watching life go on slowly,
feeling the sun on our backs,
is like knowing we really are,
the souls they talked about,
for that is what they meant,
when telling us life is this.
