Rainer Maria Rilke Poem by nick dunne

Rainer Maria Rilke

Rating: 5.0

Our deepest fears are like dragons,
gaurding our deepest treasures.
Open your heart
the closed heart is never exposed to loss,
innocent and secure cannot know tenderness.
Only the won-back heart
can ever be satisfied.
Free through all it has given up
Free to rejoice in its mastery.

a quintessential Rilke theme and a fine poem, to boot.

i don't know of rilke and i read all three of your poems. this is the only one i might understand at all. BUT i will say: they are INTERESTING....in a good way rather than bad i guess. and at least they aren't long, so i don't have to be puzzled through a long reading. thanks for sharing. i clicked on you as you were one of only two poets listed as being online...........though i know that was not true, as i am not listed as online.

lovely, simple, idiomatic elaboration of a strong idea. Sounds much like a successful translation of Rilke
