Ransack A Jungle Poem by Kimberly Burnham

Ransack A Jungle

"Ubêr" means to chase
to worry
ransack a jungle for wild animals
thoroughly annoy
to give no peace
in the Sunda language of Java
"kérta" or "bédamé"on the other hand
peace a state of repose
tranquil in the home of Ujung Kulon National Park
Indonesia's UNESCO World Heritage site
the largest remaining lowland rainforest
surviving the 1883 eruption of Krakatoa
and its tsunami
