Raotojoeein, Right Living And Peace Poem by Kimberly Burnham

Raotojoeein, Right Living And Peace

Raotojoeein
being calm or tranquil
at peace in Urarina
spoken by indigenous peoples
of the Peruvian Amazon Basin
inhabiting for several centuries
the valleys of the Chambira,
Urituyacu, and Corrientes Rivers

Hoping to live
good peacefully lives
bringing into alignment
a constellation of ideas
ranging from truth "rauhijidi"
and right or law "rauhi"
to sensory pleasure and
deliciousness "raotoha"
taste "raotono"
andlike or enjoy "rautatoha"

Freedom from anxiety
calm "raoti" and peace "raotono"
moral conduct
an honorable person "raunacaaena"
to be straight "rauhicha"

To think of other extending beyond
the human sphere
to embrace nonhumans
in an expansive social order
to make happy "rausiaaeca"
while finding health and opportunity
to heal "rautaa"
to pursue one's own
good in one's own way.

Finding it all in the midst of violence
conflict and danger
found in an Amazonian life
and around the world
expressing a competence
a manifestation of self-mastery
