Reaching To Far Poem by Antonio Bridges

Reaching To Far

There was a Long Staircase i had to go up.
I thought that if i took it one step at a time it would be quick enough.
Walking up the staircase now looking at it is a task that is tough.
Would it be good to set my foot down, going over 5,4,3, or 2 steps but i didn't want to press my luck.

I try two steps and what do you know job well done.
Started to feel comfortable and have a little fun.
This was getting to easy for me so i was moving at a faster pace.
The thought came to me faster than a bullet that it could be possible i could fall backwards and meet failure face to face.

Now reaching 3 and 4 steps on each set of stairs but lost some time along with my breath.
When it comes to the last step i was a step closer to the goal.
This task started to get more difficult and tiresome but this was no time to rest.
My shoe was getting heated and burning from the steady movement, I guess this explains why I'm worn from the soul.

Close to the top going 5 steps at a time i reach for the bar.
Didn't have much balance so i slip and mess up my foot.
I fell down the steps looking at it now i should have known better like my second time reading the same book.
People start laughing, this is what happens when reaching to far.
