Real Hope - Poem by Anton Raes

The world is crashing around me
Sun, Stars, Earth, Dust, Sand, Sea

I know I can be anything I wanna be
Paper, Pen, Pad, Life, Mind, Key

No chance of You ever holding me down
Smiles, Laughs, Love, Hate, Tears, Frowns

As long as I'm focused
ill seize the day
seize the plan

Forget Carpè Diem
across the Arm
Forget Clenched Fingertips
in the middle of a palm

Forget quotes, politically charged songs
'War is over'
Never ended Vietnam

So what makes you think
Philosophy Will give me the
Upper arm!

Alright
I know what your thinking
Mr Pessimistic
Yes I'll admit it
I fear so much
And hope so little

But when your
Surrounded by tower blocks
And broken dreams

And you Realise nothing is ever what it seems
How can you not be?

You see

I was never the type to wear baggy jeans
I was never the type to sell all sorts
For any means
I was never the sort to follow trends in glossy magazines

I was Mr Clean
The classroom joker
Mr Bean

I remember
Mr Sheen asking me in Nursery
What do I want to be, When I grow up?

I wrote
WoTs groWin UP. I JUsT waNna cHAnGe tHe wOrld Sir

He commented back
' that's all good son,
but how about you learn how to spell first :) '…

And that's when it began
My life plan
I wanted to be Superman

Well up until at least Seven,
Then I wanted to be David Beckham

Then I wanted to be Harper Lee at Eleven,

And yes I did find it Ironic,
when Beck’s named his daughter Harper Seven

But moving on
as we move closer too the end

and I approach 23
I can safely say my friend

My hopes for the future is
Not just being Rich and brainless

No

Not just writing a No.1 hit
And becoming famous

No

I just wanna be Happy
Maybe have a couple kids

Raise a family
And surround my self by love

Because at the end of the day
we all could do with that hug,

We all just want to snuggle up
Under that warm rug

Yes at the end of the day
We all just want to be loved...
