Rebel Poem by Shruti Goswami

Rebel

Without wish or luck
I stood like a flower
Wild and bright
But no one took delight
At my apparent act
Of defying gravity.

I did not deserve
The clear blue sky
Nor the touch, they said
Of love or compassion
From another
For those who are doomed
No matter how fiercely they bloomed
A rebel has never been approved
By society.

While I stood alone
Uncertain yet unwavering
There he was
A fellow rebel
Who stood ground
And hope was found
Beneath an ocean like sky
Above the earthy delight
Who touched my soul
And never made me feel
I lacked propriety.

Let my soul run wild
With you by my side
Beyond imagination
Beyond reality.
