Recovery Poem by Gerry Legister

Recovery

Rating: 5.0

We are not scared to depart.
What is there remained to miss?
Fumbling through the pain in our heart
Mental problems coming back like a wish.

Going through withdrawal like addicts
We scream out and splatter through desire.
Inside, there is a fire burning with attacks.
Time creating the dark tracks with fever.

Knees, hands, and feet shakes as it shivers.
Reckless, regardless, numbness, void aching.
This life gives and takes back the desires.
Addiction is uncomfortable to imagine.

Fail at being kind, never satisfied with time.
Being the breathtaking most precious thing.
Weird emotions that makes you laugh and sing.
A foreign alien fiend that cohabits within.

None of the things around are real experiences.
Simply happy impulses, hallucinating embellish.
Maintaining interactions with emptiness.
Worth and values twisted to make replenish.

Tring to achieve a greater understanding,
Sobriety inside working hard towards recovery.
Develop hope to escape the demand for craving.
That cannot live without its daily remedy.

Guilt trip manipulating to stop the insanity.
Take the long, excruciating road to recovery.
Pressing on relentlessly, damaged permanently.
Powerless to defeat this overwhelming army.

Frayed edges coming through on jiggered pieces.
Each step you do is new with addiction withdrawal.
Respond with self-doubt and vulnerabilities.
The battle Armour of healing comes with renewal.

Those who empathize sees the scary signs.
But only the mind can grasp the strenuous battle.
It is all blur day and night, and sometimes
the jitters become mental and physical.

And all that time you, know there is an end.
The inevitable frightful stages of relapses
When you will be without a family or a friend.
White knuckle remission turning the pages.

You may be less likely to be struggling.
But keep an eye out for your neighbors.
Listen for the anguish voices calling
for help from their prison with tremors.

An insightful piece of poetry written in persuasive expressions with conviction. Recovery is an acceptance that your life is in a serious mess, and your wholehearted commitment to affect a change. No addict attains sobriety unless the new lifestyle is more rewarding and satisfying than the one left behind. Thanks for sharing and do remain enriched.
