Red Rain Poem by Edmund V. Strolis

Red Rain

Rating: 5.0

Another vigil, somber faces.
Songs sung, candles lit
Trinkets left and selfies taken

The perpetual madness
Barely digested
Boom, bang, do it again

The merry-go-round spins
Crowds get on and off again
Sacrificial lambs

Into a corner painted
Imprisoned by fear
Armed with only prayers

Weeds grow in town now
Cobwebs crowd the square
Craters scar the parade ground

But someone must be blamed!
Be careful what you say!
Check the acceptable names

I will hide any doubts away
Now that the thought police are here
They will know what to think and say

Boom, bang, red rain
Pretend to have things under control
Then let's do it all over again.

We are living in a society of fears, accepting whatever comes in our lives as helpless creature. We have no alternate but to pass our lives as cowards. Helplessness is painted in this lovely poem so effectively.

This is really good poetry to depict a society full of fears. That speaks for all of us who are caught in our mechanical routines n have learnt to accept the darkness around us rather than fight it. Eventually we become so automated that we absorb whatever is fed to us without questioning it. Wisely penned. Deeply insightful. A big 10.
