Rednecks From Texas Poem by Rusty Ed Gibson

Rednecks From Texas

My friend and me a few years ago
took a trip to the big city don’t you know
We wanted to see what it was all about
but it just felt like foreign ground

We walked up and down those city streets
Had no idea of the people we would meet
One city block looks like another
Man did we run across some crazy mothers

We hadn't walked too awful far
when we rolled up in this little bar
Just wanting to have a beer and watch the race
we didn’t know it was that kind of place

“Hey are you guys from Texas”
someone jokingly asked
“You look like an old western,
With your boots and your hats”
“If your looking for trouble
Your in the right spot”
“We don’t like Texans”
“or Cowboys at all”

I turned to the man who was running his mouth
everyone stopped no one made a sound
Please Mister let me add to your list
a few things you need to know before you meet my fist

We wear boots and cowboy hats
We drive trucks with shotgun racks
We like women and good cold beer
We’re just rednecks with nothing to fear

We drank our beer and moved along
Tried to find the corner we started from
We had a few beers along the way
Then we had a few more – what can I say

We finally made it back and what do you know
There stood a bull made of concrete and stone
My buddy jumped on and started to ride
When someone yelled to us
Here comes the law you better hide

I spun around and yelled back at them
You don’t know who your fooling with
We may be a couple of rednecks from out of town
But we don’t run and we don’t back down

We finally made bail the day after that
They gave us back our boots and our hats
They told us to get out of their high class town
They didn’t need us they had plenty of clowns

They asked my buddy if he was from Oklahoma
They said I must be from South Dakota
I said whoa partner lets get something straight
We are definitely from the Lone Star State

We drive trucks and we like girls
We drink beer and listen to merle
We wear hats and tote shotguns
We’ll fight you all - just for fun
You could call us just about anything
Rednecks we are! Clowns we aint!
