Reflecting On The Possibility Of Nuclear War! !

Can we contemplate an act of such insanity
without shrinking from the thought in horror
what would happen if just one missile
hit its target
we have no reality from which to borrow
search for a comparison - Hiroshima, Nagasaki
but even there in the depths of human misery
we come up short by thousandths upon thousandths
words are fragile vehicles and have failed
to guard the gates of wisdom
today madness lives and speaks
with strange words of its own
they talk of overkill and megadoses of death
who planted the seeds of madness
that have sprouted in the minds
of those sitting in seats of power
what they are contemplating
is in essence an act of treason
toward the millions of powerless
that they claim to represent
and can they not hear
the death rales of the planet
choking to death on pollution
suffocating for lack of oxygen
there is no more time left
we must act now
to solve our differences without war
set aside our rhetoric
and pull together to try
to resuscitate our dying planet
before it is too late.
