Within that pitch darkness
And in depraved indifference
I lived accustomed and fairly
I found my way day and night
And without bumps and bruises
But unaware of my helplessness
The callousness of sin toughened
And l walked about obliviously
Dangers along my path veiled
My destination dimly unclear
Until a jolt of divine liveliness
Awoken me, and this callousness
The darkness of my soul evident
I fell before Him in great horror
And lifted my heart to Him
Who loved and quickened me
Ah! And the joy of His presence
Sweet and lovely, comforted me
And lifted me in divine ecstasy
Set my feet ashore to walk aright
