Rehab Poem by Mehreen Mujeeb

Rehab

Full moons have come and gone
More than once I born
With new scales and thorns
Blooming out of my new layers of skins
I can't say where you've been.

Hair grows
It dyes and streaks
Gels and hair sprays
In the end
There will always be split ends
Waiting to be cut.

Remind yourself
Life doesn't grow back
When you split from the world
Your grave will cut you off.

We're smoked up
By injecting ourselves with ourselves
Our own venom turning us into a drug
A drug retaken
So that everything seems real.

I will leave the drug I am when I die
I'll smoke myself till then.
