Remember That Time Poem by Randy McClave

Remember That Time

Do you remember, when we were young
And the songs that we once sung,
The songs we all once happily did create
But, now the songs are of murder and hate.
Do you remember, when our city was once dry
And no one stayed drunk or always got high,
And all stores were closed every Sunday
So, we had the opportunity for church to pray.
Remember, when we never had dog or horse racing
We knew it was immoral and disgracing,
Remember, when gambling wasn't legal or the law
Before, our morals did fall.
Do you remember, how we once dressed
And how we felt so very blessed,
Even though our clothes were worn and not new
But, they were clean and they weren't insultive from me to you.
Remember, of all the different colored faces
And how we fought for all the different races,
And how we all knew that in God's eyes
He sees each and every one of us as a great prize.
Remember, how we prayed and followed God
And how with his love we were always awed,
And remember, how we served and proudly fought
To help the weak and the needy as we were raised and taught.
Do you remember, when we didn't point our finger and judged
And we never posted gossip and held a grudge,
Do you remember, when we knew that as a crime
Do you still remember, that time.
