Remember When? Poem by Kathleen Wilson

Remember When?

Remember when you where a kid?
When riding a bike was the best thing to do?
Remember when laying in the sun, for a moment, was called resting?
Remember when being strong ment having big muscles?
I do.....

I remember running so fast that I almost felt I'd take flight, and really believing that I could.
I remember when forgiveness was easy. When I believed that I really could be whatever
I wanted to be when I grew up.
Then, cheating only ment peeking at 'hide and go seek.'
On Christmas morning, when I woke,
I always felt like the most special little person alive.
I remember laughing at jokes only because the adults did, and waking late at
night thinking that I was the only one on Earth.
Back then I thought War only happened in far away places, and that there were only starving children in Africa.
I also remember the first time I felt my heart breaking, and I asted my first tears of real pain.
I remember seeing a loved one lieing in their casket
That's when I realized that death was real, and was something I would face again.

I know that the sun is no longer a safe place to rest, and that my dreams of 1aking flight were just that, dreams.
I know now that ifs hard to be strong sometimes, and forgiving is even harder.
I still feel special at Christmas, and I still feel like I'm the only one alive at 3am.

Sometimes I have to remind myself that getting older isn't so bad.
Still sometimes, I go back to that place
when Grandma's wanted to give me money.
Life is too complicated to not reminisce about our past,
when breaking a shoe lace was a dilema.
It was so easy then. Do you remember when?
