Remembering Granny Poem by Ruta Mohapatra

Remembering Granny

Did I ever tell you, Granny
How beautiful you looked
In your red-bordered white sari
Covering you from head to toe!

Your long hair hanging
Like spun silver on your back
You looked plump and pretty
Like a white elegant swan

Those big beautiful eyes
Twinkling with mischief
While you recounted gone days
Of your childhood and youth

Who could ever tell
Looking at your grand old visage
How many battles you fought
How many won and how many lost
To arrive at that point in life
Unfazed and victorious!

Little did we know
That you were destined to fight
One more battle in your life!
A debilitating disease
That made you a pale shadow
Before you finally bade goodbye

Remembering you, Granny
Wherever you are
Stay blessed and blissful!
