It took me a long time
To realize that the plant was dead
It was not as if I did not know
The signs were all there
But I refused to believe it
The eternal optimist that I was
I kept watering, nurturing it
With all the care in the world
With a lot of hope in my heart
But one day something gave way
I stopped watering the dead plant
I erased its image from my mind
I dug in to get the roots out
Knowing well how it would bleed me
So difficult to resurrect the dead no matter how desperate we are. A very touching, work revealing human nature. Thank you poetess.
