Respect Poem by Sally Walker

Respect

Respect may not be perceived
But it is what you have received.
No explanation should be required
But it is.
My love for you requires respect.
My love for you is true.
Unconditional.
My love for you is screamed through silent thought.
My respect is unseen.
I am rather keen on giving.
Living is not fun.
Respect is given every day for you that I remain
Through every feeling I choose not to say or express.
By holding back.
Which you never wished to do.
So I do it to myself.
Because I may not have you.
I'm not good enough.
There will always be too much stuff
To get in the way
I cannot say
How I feel
Confused
Unloved
Desperate
Trashy
Lost
Regret for my decisions.
Regret for hurting you.
You think I disrespected you.
But that's not fair.
I do
I will
I am
I always will
Love you
Fight for you
Sing for you
Dance for you
Love for you
And respect you.
Because even though I made a poor choice.
That does not mean that we may not rejoice in the future. Our future.
I had no choice
Only thoughts that were expressed
But that's when you became depressed
Because you stressed
That those thoughts I expressed weren't good enough for me to receive the respect of my own.
So I am sorry
But while you disagree
I will always see
I treated you with the respect I didn't receive from the decision you chose to leave me from.
