Rest in peace
I say to the newly deceased,
You were so very great
I'm so sorry for your ultimate fate.
You were a great shining beacon
When help and survival others were seekin',
As you stretched out and gave your hand
So, others could stand.
I was tired and you were there
I wasn't your religion, but you allowed my prayer,
And I was needy and also poor
As a friend you allowed me on your shore.
I was lonely and tired
And you allowed me to get warm and fed and hired,
I was called the wretched refuse
And me you didn't hate or judge or did abuse.
Even though I was from a different class
You happily accepted me and others in the huddled mass,
Myself and others wanted to be free
You screamed, "COME TO ME! ".
For years you did suffer and were in pain
When people over your beliefs tried to reign,
Then when they destroyed your very soul
They then achieved their ultimate goal.
Now with a tear I and others will cry
I am so sorry that you did die,
So, as I lay more flowers on your grave
I remember how you made me both proud and brave.
BORN: July 4th,1776
You then got sick with complications of politics,
DIED: November 5th,2024
You are now no more.
