Ringing[i Hang Up] Poem by Gabriella Franco

Ringing[i Hang Up]

I pick up the phone
Dial *555-3633
This number used to call a lot
But not since Nov.15th

The 1st ring lets the butterflies
loose on my insides
I'm so scared you will answer
I almost hang up the line

'That's rude' I say to myself
So I stay on
I wonder if I lost service
But ring #2 comes on

This ring brings on the
Fear of a new girl
She's yours now at THAT place
She's over there

Then comes the third
The one that brings hope
Of 'Is Jakeb there? '
And your little brother says 'nope'

So the phone rings again
A fourth time
I'm getting a bit calmer
So I stay on the line

I miss your voice
I just want to hear it
But the phone rings again
Times 5th and 6th

On the 7th ring
I remember I'm in love
You say 'hello? '
And I hang up
