Rising In Love Poem by Erin Cowart

Rising In Love

Falling in love is easy
We don't even have to try
Do you try to fall from a branch
Try to make your hair fall out
Do we try to fall down

Falling in love just happens
Like car accidents
Forest fires
Pregnancies
Falling is nothing

Do not brag about falling in love
What did you do
Like you even had a choice
We never have a choice when we are falling

Instead let us talk of rising in love
Rising like a skyscraper
Like the sun
Rising like mountains
Like skies

Pulling ourselves up to meet one another
Hand over fist
Clawing our way to love
Like a drowned man frantically tries to
Rise to the surface

Day after day
Let us rise
Year after year
Let us rise

Give me your hand
We will rise in love together
There is no other way
