We met, we fell, but who could tell how deep the water ran.
The riptide of youth caught us out with the truth
that neither of us swam.
Our feet never touched the river bed, we struggled against the flow,
We clung so tight to each other
We were almost dragged below.
But love held us safe in the water, we turned our backs to the deep,
Looking up we beheld the stars above
And promised our vows to keep.
We learned how to swim together, through adversity and strife,
Stroke for stroke each supporting the other,
In the turbulent river of life.
