Rivers 07 - Saraswati Becomes Adarshana Poem by Unnikrishnan Sivasankara Menon

Rivers 07 - Saraswati Becomes Adarshana

Rating: 5.0

The late Vedic literature indicates
Vinashana, the point where
Saraswati disappears in the desert
as the ‘eastern border of the World',

The spot is also called ‘Adarshana',
where the river became "unseeable".

Thus, in the late Vedic period
the Saraswati still existed and flowed,
as a small stream in the Himalayan hills
but disappeared in the plains.

Upto the times of Mahabharata
the "world", the Harappan Civilisation
extended not beyond Vinashana, on the banks
of Saraswati and no human settlements
existed in the Ganga-Yamuna delta.

Thank you for all the context and background. The lack of human settlements is hardly conceivable if you contrast it to satellite imagery of the Yamuna region today.
