Like ripples in an angel's wings
The rumours fly -
That there is Life in that abyss
Above we call the sky.
Like waves across the fields of grain
The rumours run -
That there are other worlds beyond
This star we call the Sun.
Like murmurs down millennia
The rumours speak -
That there are whispers from the stars
That Earth is not unique.
Like eddies in the turning tide
The rumours spin -
That there are ships of light which glide
Beyond this planet's rim.
Like fireflies through the beacon tower
The rumours hum -
That out there is an alien power
Which to the Earth shall come.
Their voices span the dark light-years
The rumours tell -
And yet we neither hope nor fear......
From Heaven or from Hell?
