Russian Roulette Poem by Emily Gurdon

Russian Roulette

It’s a deadly game we play
With the gun and a loaded chamber
A sigh of relief when the gun ticks over
Safe for another round

We listen to our fates
Spinning in the chamber
Closer and closer to the final click
It’s you or me
So pull the trigger

The empty click echoes around us
You are safe for a moment
You breathe in relief while my breath stops
It’s my turn now

We listen to our fates
Spinning in the chamber
Closer and closer to the final click
It’s you or me
So pull the trigger

The click sounds again and I gasp out loud
Given a minutes reprieve
You are braver than me as you take your turn
The empty click is there and gone

We listen to our fates
Spinning in the chamber
Closer and closer to the final click
It’s you or me
So pull the trigger

This could be my final day
My luck may well run out
But you cannot back out of this deadly game
This is Russian Roulette

We listen to our fates
Spinning in the chamber
Closer and closer to the final click
It’s you or me
So pull the trigger

I press the gun against my head
My hand wavering with fear
But I cannot pull out of this deadly game
And so I pull the trigger

Bang!
