Sadie Poem by Je'free Y .

Sadie

Sadie drank her heart out in a little country town bar,
And imagined stardom and her prince charming
Somewhere in the way of the westward birds.

She could see a few of their feathers falling,
As their earnest beaks point toward sunset;
And when the airplanes flew above her yard,
She was certain of a Hollywood limelight
Where birds and airplanes headed.

She got exhausted of the corn-fed boys,
The square dancing, the swap meets,
And the golden-haired girls singing folk songs
In talent shows.

She lamented at what her scroll of fate unfurled,
And guzzled more alcohol, closer, closer to death.
When the thought of death hit her,
She opted to have her final breath to be
Over some Los Angelino lover instead.

She now works at a grocery store uptown
As a cashier for the 10-items-or-less-lane.
Up to now, she still gets herself intoxicated,
And speculates of the California dreamland,
Destination of most birds and airplanes
That probably also hold an aspiration for
A soul mate, a silver screen role,
And an infinite sky where big stars dazzle.
