Sailing On 'Black Velvet' Poem by Meriki Raelene ParkinsonFraser

Sailing On 'Black Velvet'

Rating: 4.5

Glide out of the moor, sleek ‘Black Velvet’ turns with ease,
shining black boom soars, mainsail floats up high by sheets’.

Sneak into the Bay, astern I stand, wait for sea legs’,
as we bear away, jib is set, the ocean begs.

Then stand by to tack, ‘Velvet’ tips and turns’ on cue,
Skipper gives a clap, thanks to his respondent crew.

Sailing through the Bay, ocean breeze enlightens soul,
all woes drift away, leaving us to soak it all.

“Watchout for the bar! ”, Bowman said before the thud,
“Thought it wasn’t far! ”, Skipper said with his chin up.

One more look at ‘Talisman’, sit gunwhale as we gybe through,
sheets get caught while winching them, where’s the knife to cut loose?

Stylishly ‘Black Velvet’, made it through the web of yachts’,
we dropped sail to forfeit, speed or we’d have crashed the lot!

Tacking again now to moor, sleek ‘Black Velvet’ down sails’,
Skipper tease and tempt the shore, at the tiller, never fails.

Neatly fold the sails’, “ Good job crew, you have excelled! ”,
tie up yacht to rails’, lock the hatch, and 'fare the well'.

Then the rain approached, after granting us our leisure,
smiling we drove home, glowing from our sailing venture.
