Sorry Day Australia 13-2-2008

From Dreamtime days of where the
Aussie bush kids played,
lived in peace with family
to where we stand today.

A silent crack has spoken
much like a stockman’s whip,
it’s left a gap so broken
the pain so hard to lift.

Our fathers and our mothers
the children of this land,
ruled abused by others
by politicians with pens.

A crime against humanity
the only way to explain,
such separation of family
is more than inhuman.

So voice rang out across
our great nation today,
the spirit of the song
brought tears from yesterday.

A stepping stone ascending
into souls of Australians,
towards together mending
the past and all its failures.

So let us all be the seams
and may we all embrace,
into the Aussie tapestry
regardless of our race.

This new beginning calls for
the spirit to understand,
symbolically gathering all
Australians to hold hands.
