Saj



The Lord our God created us whole,
And in our hearts put a swinging soul
The Lord our God created us with flaws
So we don’t always obey His laws.
Over the body He put the Doctor in charge
With great skill and knowledge he does his job
Yet however hard he turns his brain’s knob
Some knowledge of the body still remains at large.

To the worried woman whose baby has Trisomy thirteen
Yet who has diligently served a deity unseen
To the father whose son can’t cope in class
Because of the cerebral palsy his son has,
You are our unsung heroes
For your persistence and perseverance
For the skipped meals hence lost kilos
For the money spent in silent endurance.

To the woman who had to quit today
To make time for her son who has sickle cell disease
Such a price is that which you must pay
To see your child a little more at ease.
To those who sincerely ask
‘Please what went wrong? ’
Your question is a daunting task.
Yet one thing I know for sure
Is that the practice of medicine is still very young
And you mother are not to blame
For an occurrence that couldn’t have been prevented.
Yet please keep being patient all the same!
I dedicate this poem to you
Whose loved ones are chronically ill
I dedicate this poem to you
Who will be by them until…
