So It Was Poem by yakubu abukari n

So It Was

So it was in the days of old
When men were men and boys were bold
Or so I am told
When stories were told by the fireside
Because the weather was cold
And it was scary inside
When the donkey was our Bentley
And wrestling was our hobby
So it was before we were born
When our fathers worked on plantations of plantain and corn
And our mothers were first to wake up to start a fire at dawn
So it was in the days of old
When men were men and boys were bold
So it was when slaves were bought
And branded with iron-red hot
So it was in the days of old
Or wasn’t it so in the coast of gold?
So it is in the days of new
When boys are men and men are few
When Nokia 3310 has become a phone of the past
And a museum piece covered in dust
When less is good
And more is nude
So it is in the days of new
When boys are men and men are few
And the pursuit of wealth is the object of living
And our liver is soaked in and destroyed by gin
When armed robberies are rife
And there is disregard for life
When politicians after pouring sachet water on us
Make us believe it is the rain that has
When all must go through school
Be you a genius or a fool
