Salamander Sleep Poem by Mario Wirz

Salamander Sleep

In the sun
the salamander slept
on a stone
which I picked up
hours later
when the salamander
had vanished
with the sun
The stone
remained silent
before all the questions
that I dragged
through my life
Decades later
in sleepless silence
the stone still protects
the secret
of the salamander
that distant hour
in the sun
