Sandcastles - Poem by banamala sen
The other day I was walking on the beach,
And found a little boy unwaveringly making sandcastles!
How much I felt I was him!
Making sandcastles all day, till today!
I thought I had everything, everything someone could crave for,
I thought I was fulfilled,
Did I realize my prized castles were made of sand?
Only to get washed away in the fathomless ocean!
How silly was I?
I didn't know where my treasure was, the treasure which only a fortunate can unearth
from the depth of the ocean, like a diver finds pearls in the Arabian Sea,
I didn't realize who was waiting for me, from an unforgettable distant past,
The past which beckons me,
And who I was waiting for all my life - like an ancient Mariner waits to sight a grassy island of spices!
At last, my love, I found you,
I found you the way I dreamed about you in my fondest dreams,
You used to come in my dream, like a captivating fairy from my past,
Just to disappear in obscurity!
I loved you when I didn't know what love is!
My castles are not made of sand any more!
