Saved By Mathematics Poem by Paul Hartal

Saved By Mathematics

Rating: 4.0

When he was a teenager
he was depressed and hated life.
He even contemplated suicide.
However, mathematics saved him.
Thirsty for discovering
intrinsic truths,
fascinated by the search
for certainties, the precision
and beauty of mathematics,
he eventually decided
that he did not want to die
before exploring the secrets
of this enchanted palace.

And so,
Bertrand Russell,3rd Earl,
the grandson of British Prime Minister
Lord John Russell,
grew into becoming
one of the leading mathematicians
and philosophers of the 20th century.
Also a Nobel laureate in literature,
Bertrand Russell died in 1970.
at the age of 97.
