Scandalous Man Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

Scandalous Man

Scandalous man
Was this all planned?
Start with goodbye
Don't let me ask why.

You've had what you want
Now you expect me to leave.
No time to talk.
No place to sleep.

So I'm out in the cold.
My pride is on hold.
I regroup in the taxi
I can't find my panties.

Nothing new.
Nothing novel.
You won't listen.
I won't grovel.

And so I make my way home
Alone in this city
While you sleep it off
Not a thought for my safety.

Where are the men?
Where are the lovers?
Where are the friends
With whom we discover

What it means to exist
What it means to matter
How it feels to knit together
What others have shattered
Into a shelter comforting enough
To allow two people to open up in love.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this after listening to 'Start With Goodbye, Stop With Hello, ' by Eliza Rickman on youtube. The title comes from the lyrics, but the poem is my own.
