Schooling Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Schooling

Schooling
-not black, white neither
-light blue…of water
-writing was with bubbles:
-'We are fish…I, puffer…
-or balloon, Blow Fish…'

And went on in teaching
-came schools of the fish
-spent time in class
-then left so came others
-staying to read, learn

And teacher was puffed up
-like a ball, globe, round
-'…there we have siblings;
-…on beaches, in desert…
-…they are dunes…
-…dust and mist in clouds…
-…in caves and in lava…
-as fossils, hot metals…'

Looked a fish to other
-questions ran in its eyes
-'Siblings and that far? '

Teacher saw, was bright
-politely gave reply
-to questions never asked:
-'Yes we have…
-particles and the cells…
-energy and power…
-rest assure never die…
-they change form…
-egg, ovule and fetus…
-shark and eel, sting ray
-to dolphin, killer whale
-sparrow, blue jay
-and so on and so on…
-we are same, all in one…
-are sisters, brothers…
-as sands are from rocks
-broken from moms…
-fallen, rolled on sides of
-mountains to endless seas…
-in currents were stones…
-stagnant, became moss…

And teacher, confident
-stood there, rounded, filled
-with water, air, bubbles:
-'We are one, all of us.'

Looked class to class
-sea lions, sharks with rays
-crabs kissed the prawns
-shrimps felt equal…
-to lobsters, now humble…
-babies came in mass and…
-star fish came to dance…
-jelly fish clapped hands
-sea became a heaven
-composers wrote scores
-sang singers with choirs:
-'We are all siblings…
-live with love and in peace…
-eat less and harm no one…
-since we know we will die…
-but not die forever…
-change look and conquer…
-new mould, shape and form…'

Then came sound of mankind
-Beethoven and Mozart
-Tebaldi, Johan Strauss…
- Bach, Chopin,
-Tchaikovsky on and off…
-prelude to coming
-of mermaid on stage…

Depth, surface of the sea
-gathered as sport teams
-waves became the agents
-'Go and take our message
-and tell our loving earth
-of how we have missed her.'

The cliffs and beaches
-sitting bored looked ugly
-till came waves with smiles…
-frowned hosts shined like suns…
