One of my favourite Pratchett lines was in Lords And Ladies where he was trying to get across the point that Elves were not beautiful, sylph-like creatures possessed of unearthly grace and beauty, but simply employed Glamour to befuddle those around them. He described them as cold, ruthless and utterly heartless - ...imagine cats on horseback.... Why does this image always make me think of politicians? ?
