Scream Poem by Thoughts of a Single Man

Scream

The confusion of a battered teen the remnants of a tattered seam the pieces of a shattered dream
again I scream

As a young man I seemed to be a target on hate anger and envy but I was just trying to be
me as we all do
I trusted those I labeled friend always with a helping hand to lend but time and time again
I found they were untrue
I gave my love to the first a gift that turned into a curse for they were the one who hurt me worst
I was too young to see
The one with who I should have stayed I left because I was afraid and saw our ties become torn and frayed
I still remember thee

The confusion of a battered teen the remnants of a tattered seam the pieces of a shattered dream
again I scream

There were the times I received praise for music done upon a stage but my fellow performers had hidden rage
They were no friends of mine
Behind my back they cursed my name and burdened me with fear and shame and stripped away my basking fame
Yet I continue to shine
For without them now the path is clear I make music for all to hear a gift I give to the listening ear
Through pen and microphone
I shun those who would work in pairs for I have too many wounds to bear and if you look the scars are still there
And so I stand alone

The confusion of a battered teen the remnants of a tattered seam the pieces of a shattered dream
again I scream

I sacrificed both life and work and felt the loss of my own worth because a mate left me so hurt
To leave and not return
So I was left to crash and burn but I did not break I stood firm its as if now she has perished and will learn
Her memories are in an urn
A child that I loved so held her close and watched her grow is now some one I do not know
Her voice I cannot hear
I reach out with open arms but like fabric that needs to be darned she rejects me and remains gone
My words fall on deaf ears

The confusion of a battered teen the remnants of a tattered seam the pieces of a shattered dream
Again I scream

So now I take my pain and rage and put them on an empty page for there is still a life that must be saved
and that life is mine
I persevere through each day allowing God to lead the way grant me love so I may stay
And heal these wounds of time
I write for love I write for hope for those who feel they cannot cope who see the ending of their rope
This blessing I give to you
For of all the pain that I have endured I see a new home on an open shore for love and friends can be the cure
If you let them through

The confusion of a battered teen the remnants of a tattered seam the pieces of a shattered dream
again I scream

I have no ending to this tale except to learn I cannot fail if I believe and I will set sail
A new journey will unfold
One of happiness so great that it will take this twisted fate of mine and make my vision straight
And bring me in from all this cold
So I will continue on this ride hiding what churns deep inside a need for love hope and pride for
I know not what they mean

The confusion of a battered teen the remnants of a tattered seam the pieces of a shattered dream
again I scream
