Scriptures. Poem by Driss Ezzireg

Scriptures.

Scriptures of yesterday wish to act now.
Wiser for old lore ignorant of how
To step down of the throne
And leave youth alone.
Leave young minds that forage new age
Reign over their destinies with wisdom and rage.
Wrecked vessels cannot preside over turbulent ocean.
Nor weariness be omen for vigorous motion.
Nor fading star outrun a shooting one.
Nor old losers be coach to the winning young.
Scriptures of yesterday you are relics of the ancients.
Dead suns cannot cast new light on moving present,
Nor full moon yield radiant beauty than crescent,
Nor rotten fruit lying on unkempt ground taste
As sweet as ripe fruit naked on golden plate.
Scriptures of yesterday sleep yourselves away.
