Second Glance - Poem by Robert Barnes

the past is bleak
the future is dark
so much havoc i wreaked
but it's a permanent bookmark
in the book of memories
on the shelf of life
i've created so many enemies
especially within my wife
tried to reconcile
tried to kill the pain
but her love is a freestyle
and leaves me mute in the rain
thought i had a chance
thought i could put up a fight
but a baby makes her take a second glance
at who she should be with at night
so as my hope fades black
and her love goes to him
i'll never get her back
and my future seems so dim
i can't hurt anymore
can't live while she's with someone else
so i walk out of the door
and rip the book off the shelf
write the ending on the page
and close the book forever
my death the final stage
cause i can't live without her
