Secondary School Poem by Isaac Trenholm

Secondary School

I sit alone, in a crowded room, and watch the people talk.
I stand alone, in a crowded school, and watch the students walk.
I am the one, whose name you don't, know, or care to ask.
I am the one, whose fragility, is fading into glass.

Everyone, and everything, are foreign to me here.
I'm alien, and wrongly placed, I live my life in fear.
These people that they call my peers, and force me to embrace.
Are primal things, impulse driven, thuggish and ill-made.

An education's, built around, the premise of the pack.
Conform, Adhere, and sit right there, and don't do this or that.
But in the bending, of the mind, the distortion of the form,
some of us, cannot adapt, we break inside your norm.

Society, society, don't make demands of me!
Don't lock me up, inside your box, and tell me that I'm free.
Don't dare impede, my innate need, to walk a different way.
Don't force on me, the life you lead, for that I can't obey.

I'm trapped, get back, there's no way out, my life's a prison cell.
Repetition of an act, perpetuating hell.
What escape, could I create, to break these shackled wrists?
Only one, is absolute, and fear inhibits it.
