Secret Lover Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Secret Lover

His lover was secret kept well hidden
Never revealed, owned by family and friends,
With only two hearts knowing and accepting
Each vowed to love secretly, true soulmates
Lover married with daughter, another's child.
They met in shadows over decades inspiring love
Love that could not be shared with others
But kept hidden safely within two hearts.
They could not break the bond holding them
Needing time together, love precious, aflame.
Strengthened by secret meetings with phone calls,
Delighting in each other's bodies and company
Knowing hearts would ruinously break asunder
If they could not meet nor speak to each other again.
They need cloaked secrecy fulfilling happiness
Giving each day meaning and sun to shine.
