Seen From Afar Poem by Christina Ross

Seen From Afar

Atop a mountain built so high
Sits a little house all alone it sighs
With windows so tall and wide
The ground below seems so small

An old, little house
Set in stone long ago
A man’s great accomplishment
His family’s love spread throughout its walls

An old, little house with a balcony so long
Set over the mountain’s side
Overlooking God’s creation.
A magnificent waterfall.

A wondrous waterfall
With rocky ridges and steep slopes
A slide of crystal water pouring o’er
Into a luscious lagoon below

A wonderful waterfall
Whose majesty is seen for miles and miles
Surrounded by tall oaks and maples
Small shrubs of green and gray

Perfect purple flowers drawn close
In awe of this great sight
Caves behind reach out in envy
As the soft breeze sends moist air through

Through the dark hair of a young girl
Sitting on the balcony so long
Sketch pad and pencils scattered.
Surrounded by ripped out pages

Blurred by tears of grief
The man lost, the woman gone
And the girl alone...
This place of hope and love lost.

Windows scarred by memories of sacrifice
Stone carved with words of happiness
Seen from afar an old, little house grazing the mountain top
A family’s dream of freedom.
