Destination: Poem by Christina Ross

Destination:

As the fog rolls in
I roll out
No sign of life for miles....

Foot. Steps.

That tick tock cadence plays in my head
As I look up
I see the first star in days

Chills run down my back....
Something’s near
Watching.
Breathing.
Waiting.

I continue on my way
Destination: Nowhere, just Somewhere
What I see: nothing, just something

There it is again.

Heart beats close behind me
Warmth throws my attention astray
For the first time in a long time
A familiar face I see

With soft eyes - sea blue
A grin so big - seen for M I L E S
A smell of life.
Regret. Fear. Love

I reach out to touch you
Skin so warm - a memory
Known all too well.

I blink again.
You’re no longer there;
Vanished
Into thin air.

I continue on my way
Destination: Home.
