Self-Love Poem by Majdoleen (Maggie) Sukayri

Self-Love

You may travel to the ends of the earth to hide,
But it has a way of following you.
Like a shadow, it creeps up behind you.

It may disappear in complete darkness
When your heart refuses to see,
And you have walked on to new worlds.

You deceive yourself, and believe
This love has left you… you go on in search of another.

You find new opportunities
Many waiting to be called over,
Unwilling to give in to your past, you move forward, get closer.

You struggle to find perfection again as you once knew it,
Believing if you don't give up, you'll find love again,
But as you go on, and with each failure
You lose hope, you finally give up,
And just when you begin to adjust,
Light cracks its way back into your path,
And you realize, no other love fit you perfectly
As the one you let slip away.

You see light again,
And you run towards it, in search of your old shadow.

You finally see it, not as it was before,
You shift yourself, move, and keep moving,
Until at last you see clearly… your own silluette
And you realize, it was there all along
Your long search has finally ended

Even in the darkest of nights… it never left your side…
