Self-Reflection Poem by EU STRESS

Self-Reflection

This morning I saw a crow -
Desperately pecking
At its reflection upon the mirror;
Trying in futility
To recover its twin self
Beyond the reflective surface.

The sight flashed up three insights:

Facet one:

Between my self and my self-concept
Lies my ego, my aham.

Facet two:

I see myself
Engaged in a despondent quest
For my second self,
In the infinite you -
Both the bigger you and the smaller you,
Beyond the impregnable fences of illusion.

Facet three:

I see myself
Relentlessly knocking
Upon my mind’s mirror,
Searching for myself,
Beyond the thin, mercuric film
Of my intrusive self-consciousness.
