Selfish World Poem by Christopher Teale

Selfish World

Rating: 5.0

Gifted with the freedom of flight
Denied it by those who would wish it
Sadly unable to fight
survive, from jailer's feeding

Such is the fate of this bird
By nature adorned with beauty
Such is the truth of the world
That steals for itself what it finds pretty

It steals the flight of an innocent heart
It makes beauty a prisoner of its arrogance
Any happiness, it tries to thwart
To be accompanied in its misery

Song turned to screams
Hope turned to despair
Destroying what is truly human
Destroying what is fair

Building a plastic idea of good
Confounding the heart in its fantasies
When what it needs is the truth
About life and its beautiful melodies

An exceptional write on what we as a whole are slowly doing to this world.
