Selfless Poem by Lindsay King

Selfless

it seems so pointless to get up
to get up just to remember how empty this all is
you erased me
you replaced me
you made it seem like i meant nothing
and you'd rather pretend
you felt little for me
than admit that maybe
you had some faults
of your own

you said you're so selfless
you said you'd do anything for anyone
you said you're a nice guy
we'll i've come to realize
that we can say
anything
that we want to
but when the actions don't back it up,
i know it's not true

you weren't selfless
when you thought of me
you never gave me
the benefit of the doubt
that i gave you
on a daily basis
i never crossed your mind
when you decided to end this
those things you said you'd never do
you did them all at once
like you prided yourself
on being the one
who hurt me the most

in the end
the only one who ever got
a spit of consideration
was yourself

the only person
whom you ever really cared for
was you

you'd rather believe
the world was one big conspiracy
than think that maybe
you weren't always right

now i know
maybe you never really
loved me.
